Templates

Although a Content Management System site like a WordPress site appears to be different from one built using HTML coding, at the back end of every website lies coding.

Templates are the files which control how your WordPress site will be displayed on the Internet. They search for and pull the necessary information or code from your WordPress MySQL database, then generate the HTML code which is displayed in the web browser.

One of the reasons I love WordPress is that it makes it easy for you to use as many different Templates as you wand in a single Theme. Each of these Template files gives you the ability to display content on your site in as many different layouts as you wish. e.g. the Premium Theme that I used for this site, has a total of 6 Templates that I can choose from. One way to see this in action is to click on any of my blog posts and notice that the side bar disappears. That is because I have decided to use a single column template for all of my posts since I think it makes for a better reading experience for my visitors.

Also, click on any of my other pages and notice that the sidebar is located on the right instead of the left, as it is on this page.

There are literally thousands if not millions of templates available for nearly every kind of website and, especially for WordPress.

Here are some of my favorite Themes that include interchangeable Templates with a click of a mouse:
